Virgin announces a doubling of flights for Sunshine Coast
Sunshine Coast Airport welcomes the announcement that Virgin Australia will increase capacity for the Sunshine Coast, doubling return flights between Sydney and Melbourne by October 2021.
Sunshine Coast Airport Head of Corporate Relations Ayllie White said Virgin Australia’s announcement is great news for Virgin Australia and the region.
“Sunshine Coast has strong appeal as a destination as traveller confidence grows, with its beautiful beaches, stunning hinterland and laidback coastal villages,” Ms White said.
“We are delighted that Virgin Australia has recognised the opportunity the region provides, and we expect these additional services will be very popular, providing direct links to key destinations, and as the weather cools down, we have no doubt that many will be looking for a warm Sunshine Coast holiday.
“The additional direct services will give passengers greater flexibility and choice, not only providing locals with more opportunity to travel to key business and leisure destinations at more convenient times, but giving more people living in Sydney and Melbourne the opportunity to visit our beautiful region more often.
Ms White said the announcement comes at an important time for our region.
“This additional capacity will certainly provide a welcome boost to the local economy, particularly local tourism operators who enjoyed a very strong Easter.”
Virgin announced that return flights between Sunshine Coast-Melbourne are increasing from 13 to 28 flights and Sunshine Coast-Sydney flights are increasing from 11 to 26 per week by October 2021.
