Sunshine Coast Airport saw an all-time record number of passengers for the month of October of around 125,000 people.

This figure is up almost 6,900 passengers from October 2018, a 5.8% increase year on year.

Sunshine Coast Airport Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Brodie, said the Airport was extremely proud of the results which reflected continuing demand in the region, and recent tourism figures showing record numbers of visitors from Sydney and Melbourne.

“Our airline partners are experiencing very high demand on domestic routes, especially into Sydney and Melbourne, and continued growth month on month,” Mr Brodie said.

“October may have seen the end of our New Zealand season, but we’re welcoming next year’s services earlier than ever before, commencing 12 April 2020, and we’re still one of the fastest growing airports in the country.

“From a local’s perspective, it means travellers can enjoy greater services and connectivity to the world from right here on their doorstep.”

Visit Sunshine Coast Chief Executive Officer, Simon Latchford, said Sunshine Coast Airport had played a major role in delivering the region record visitor numbers over the past year.

“The Sunshine Coast has really built its profile as a premium holiday, conference, events and business destination, and all these sectors have produced significant growth this year,” Mr Latchford said.

“With Sunshine Coast Airport able to attract new services from key ports such as Sydney and Auckland, and with the launch of the new runway next year, we can see this momentum accelerating even faster.”
