After Hours Operations

While most flights occur during daytime hours at Sunshine Coast Airport, we do operate 24 hours a day and it is occasionally necessary for some operations to be undertaken at night.

The Airport operates a Noise Abatement Procedure for commercial aviation operators. Under that procedure, we require commercial operators with aircraft greater than 5,700kg to gain prior Airport approval to take-off or land between the hours of 11pm and 5.30am.

We give careful consideration to the noise impacts these operations have on our immediate surrounding communities, while also balancing the operational needs of our airline partners and the broader economic and community benefits for the Sunshine Coast and Noosa regions.

Out Of Hours Applications

All applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis, and we may request a number of conditional mitigation measures to help reduce impacts to surrounding residents. This may include limiting the number of aircraft movements permitted and trimming the aircraft to reduce noise and are subject to safety and weather considerations.

Decisions to approve flights during these hours are not made lightly by Sunshine Coast Airport. These requests may be granted due to an economic benefit to the region or in response to unforeseen circumstances such as weather, diversions or mechanical issues, so approval is often provided at short notice.

Further information on the Noise Abatement Procedure can be found on the Airservices Australia website under Aircraft in Your Neighbourhood.
